A couple of weeks ago, in preparation for my move to Japan, I started filing change of address with my banks, doctors, magazines, Netflix, etc. It was then that it occured to me that I didn't have an address to forward my mail to. American companies don't typically mail to international addresses, and won't accept a home address in Japan. The US Postal Service also won't forward mail to an international address. The sudden realization that I'd no longer be receiving mailers selling 32% APR credit cards or donation requests from the Save the Mosquitos foundation caused me to hyperventilate and go into a panic attack.
Fortunately, my rescue dragon put a brown paper bag over my head and started to research our options online. Apparently there are mailing services that will receive and accumulate mail and forward it upon request it. There's also the option of asking parents to do the same thing, but with that approach I run the risk of them find out about my Hello Kitty fetish. I decided to take the less travelled route: forward all my mail to my dragon and ask him to figure out what to do with it. I'm the best girlfriend ever.
I've been in Japan for 5 days now, and today I discovered that I didn't actually move to Yokosuka, Japan. I moved to FPO, United States of America. Sounds like an alien landing zone, right? Apparently the Naval Base Yokosuka is located on FPO (city) and AP (state), and the zip code is 96349. And joining the civilian ranks in Yokosuka earned me a free mailbox in the post office. So thanks again to my generous Navy, I now have an American address in Japan: PSC 473 Box XXX, FPO, AP 96349. (Can't share the Box # because supermarkets are stalking me). Excited, I forwarded all of my mail to this my new address. Well, except for the Hello Kitty fan club newsletters. I'm hoping one day Deniz' neighbors will spot him pulling one out of his mailbox.
I have known you for so many years and I had NO IDEA you were a FELLOW HELLO KITTY fan...lol!! :) Yay! I guess now that Deniz is receiving your mail, I should say--Welcome to the club, Deniz!! :)
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, can I get your Box # via email? I promise I won't tell the supermarkets! However, I cannot promise I won't use it to take over the world! Wahahahahaha.... :)
