Death Valley - Dunes, Towns, and Badwater

Is this a handsome group of photographers or what? Thanks to Peter for bringing us together. Nothing beats shooting with pros!

We headed out before sunrise our first day at Death Valley to catch the morning light on the Mesquite Flats Sand Dunes near Stovepipe Wells.

The dunes were my favorite part of the day. Their flow and massiveness make them fun to photograph. I found adding people to my photos helped too. Here, I think Sequoia and I are mutually photographing each other.

I was enamored with the distinctive waves in the dune ridges; not what you'd expect to see!

The morning light casts beautiful shadows on the ridgetop ripples.

As the morning wore on, it became harder and harder to find dunes without footprints all over them. Here you can see a trail of prints, amongst a mostly untouched dune.

Kind of makes you want to volunteer for the Stovepipe Wells Fire Department, eh?

Devil's Cornfield has some weird plants! And yes, that really is me; I didn't photoshop myself in.

Beaty, the historic gateway to Death Valley, is now a good place to buy candy and enjoy a little resort action.

After lunch, we caravaned to Badwater. Here's a classic shot of Death Valley.

We finished the day at Badwater, enjoying the varied polygon salt patterns until sunset. I was so pleased there was still encrusted salt, unlike the lake last time I visited Death Valley.
