
Well, we had a fantastic (albeit tired) time observing the midnight Grunion Run. And aside from the very unfortunate Grunion kicking incident, I daresay the Grunion survived our visit as well. I remembered to bring my camera this time, so I have some pics to show you!

For those of you who have never seen a Grunion before, this what they look like.

During a run, one female and her harem of males wash onto shore. The female digs into the sand, lays eggs, and the males flop towards her to spray down her body with sperm. After they're done their hanky-panky, they all flop back into the Ocean as quickly as possible. The eggs lay waiting for a month, for the next high tide to hatch them and wash them into the Ocean.

You got to give them credit; it's a rare species that risks drowning everytime they want to mate!
