I finally arrived this mysterious country few days ago. My flight with Korean Airlines was a pleasant one. Not only I landed on a very good seat with no one behind me, I also had the chance of watching the little-better-than-cheesy movie Clash of the Titans. After a long flight, we landed on Tokyo Narita Airport safe and sound.
After going through the immigration and customs; convincing officials that I won't be staying here in Japan for more than 90 days, and that I did not bring any expensive gifts; I finally met Delphine in person! We had been having s Skype-based relationship since she left, so seeing her in person was great. We went to the bus that she arranged. The bus was from the Navy base so you either have to work for the Navy or have to be a registered guest. I was Delphine's guest, but my Turkish passport was seen as a security threat (they wrongfully thought I was from Turkmenistan). We headed for the train station.
After 2.5 hours and about 10,000 yens, we arrived at the Yokosuka-chuo station. I guess we weren't suffering enough in that hot & humid weather, so it started to rain while we were each pulling on a luggage trying to find a place to eat. We found this Thai-fusion place with vegetarian options which tasted wonderful, and that was officially my first eat in Japan.
One thing I noticed was the vending machines. They are everywhere. They thought of everybody: Ice tea, ice coffee, coke, water, ice cream, hot coffee - sometimes even beer. I am not a sucker for pachinko or slot machines, but I know I spend quite some money on these vending machines. Their ice coffee is not only tasty but also much cheaper than Starbucks or any other coffee shop.
After a 5-minute of train ride, we were near home. We walked from the station to our apartment. It's a nice big apartment with lots of light that wakes you up 5AM in the morning. No alarm clocks necessary. The sun is not shining that day? No problem, the meat depot next door, or the car junk across the street will make sure you are ready to seize the day!
